Outcomes for pupils with barriers to learning

Early Reading and Phonics

  • Reading reamains a strength in our school with phonics screening checks showing 90% of children passed the phonics screening check in the Y1 cohort.
  • Disadvantged pupils achieve significantly better than the same group nationally: 89% compared to 67%, with an average mark of 34, compared to 30 nationally
  • In Year 2, 95% of children achieved the expected standard in the phonics screening
  • The school is ambitious for all pupils and so we will continue to focus on ensuring that children with particular barriers to learning in literacy are supported to achieve and acquire the basic foundational skills, to the best of their ability, through planned interventions and through adaptive teaching strategies and approaches
